Acute bronchitis

What is acute bronchitis?

Acute bronchitis is a sudden occurrence of infectious inflammatory condition in the bronchi, which is the lungs' air conduction system. Several things can be the cause of this irritation. The condition means that more mucus is formed and the mucous membrane raises so that the air has less space to pass on. You can also cough because of the irritated tissue.

What are the causes of acute bronchitis?

  • A virus that usually causes cold, and as this time spreading further into the respiratory tract (bronchi).

  • A bacterium, often with or after a virus infection.

  • In rare cases chemical fumes, dust or other.

How does acute bronchitis feel?

Viruses or bacteria cause inflammation of the respiratory tract, which causes:

  • Respiratory irritation which causes coughing.

  • An inflammation that causes increased mucus formation may cause spitting.

  • Swelling of the mucosa and increased mucus formation can narrow the airways. It can cause wheezing or wheezing.

  • The inflammation can cause fever, fatigue and common malaise.

Cigarette smoke, cold and humid weather and air pollution can worsen acute bronchitis.

What can you do yourself?

You can drink plenty of water and avoid tobacco smoke. In addition, cough should be controlled by coughing as little as possible to avoid mucous membranes.

You should contact your doctor:

  • In case of severe breathing difficulties.

  • If the skin gets a bluish or whitish color, especially around the lips.

  • When breathing is withdrawn.

  • If the seizure feels worse than usual.

  • If the attack lasts longer than 14 days.

  • If you wake up early in the morning during the attack.

How is acute bronchitis treated?

The doctor can treat antibiotics if the acute bronchitis is caused by a bacterial infection. For the other reasons, such as viruses, one can not treat the very cause of acute bronchitis. But you can ease the symptoms if they become very annoying. Short-acting (short-acting) muscle short-acting agents (Beta2 agonists) are used to ease the symptoms especially in children.
