Ammonaps® is an enzyme deficiency agent in the liver.

Application

Ammonaps® is used to treat:

  • A rare liver enzyme defect that causes the absence of excess nitrogen (nitrogen).

May only be delivered from hospital or pediatric specialist clinic.


Dosage

Available as tablets and granules. The dose is individual and is determined by the patient's weight and body surface area.

Note:

  • The total daily dose should be divided into equal amounts and associated with the main meals (eg 3 times dgl).
  • The tablets should be taken with a large amount of water.

Tablets. 1 tablet contains 500 mg sodium phenylbutyrate.

Granules. 1 g contains 940 mg of sodium phenylbutyrate.


Special warnings

Ammonaps® should be used with caution at:
  • Badly functioning heart.
  • Badly functioning liver.
  • Badly functioning kidneys.
  • sodium
    • 1 tablet contains sodium equivalent to about 158 mg of sodium chloride.
    • 1 small spoonful of granules contains sodium equivalent to about 379 mg of sodium chloride.
    • 1 medium spoonful of granules contains sodium equivalent to about 1 g of sodium chloride.
    • 1 large spoonful of granules contains sodium equivalent to about 3 g of sodium chloride.
    • If you are on sodium or low fat diet, take into account the sodium content.
