Do I have OCD?

Questions

Dear Network Doctor,

I'm afraid I might have OCD. I have to wash my hands many times before I feel clean. I do not want to touch some people because they are "dirty" and they should not touch me or my stuff or it will be washed.

I also get angry when it comes to noise pollution. I know it's not a symptom that is mentioned, but if I only hear the slightest sound while I'm doing something, it has to be done over and over until I can not hear anything. I can not cope that some people touch me or make some sounds.

I can not have a normal day because people will always borrow my things - and I can not say no. Therefore, everything should be washed all the time. I do not know what to do, please help me.

I can not tell my mother either because I know she will not believe me. She will probably just laugh at me and say that it's just something I find. Do not you want to be sweet to help me?

I also have bad thoughts about myself and sometimes I do not want to live anymore. I have considered how to put an end to everything by taking care of myself. I pray you, you will not help me.

Dear Questions,

I think you're quite right when you write that you probably have OCD. You can read more about OCD here: ///sygdomme/fakta/tvangssymptomer.htm

You write that you can not really talk to your mother about it because you think she'll just think it's something you find. I'm sorry that it's not just something you'll find - otherwise you would Do not write to a network doctor. I guess if you quietly talk to your mother about it and tell about your compulsive thoughts and rituals, she will hardly laugh at you or say it's something you find.

You also write that you have thought about whether you should take your own life. The thoughts you can beat completely out of the head. The good news is that OCD can be treated.

The treatment typically consists of a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and medicine. In the behavioral therapy, you work both with the processing of thinking and conduct behavioral experiments, and in terms of medicine, it is typically SSRI preparations - what some call "happiness pills". Happiness pills are a bad description, because it's not pills you take and then you're just happy.

In order for you to get started with the treatment, call your GP and book a consultation session. You may be. print my answer and bring to the consultation.

Good luck with the treatment.

With best regards
