possible side effects

Injection into joints and soft parts rarely shows serious side effects. When injected into a muscle, the side effects depend on the dose and duration of treatment:

Very common (over 10%)

Discomfort at the injection site (eg swelling and pain in the treated joint)

menstrual disorders

Common (1-10%)

Vomiting, Insomnia

Uncommon (0.1-1%)

Cushing's syndrome - physical and mental changes due to high levels of adrenal gland hormone, malfunctioning adrenal cortex *, aggravated diabetes, diabetes mellitus, growth retardation (in children)

Unstable joints **

Allergic reactions, Anaphylactic shock - An acute severe allergic condition, Infections, Impaired symptoms of infection

Rare (0.01-0.1%)

Ulcer

Elevated blood pressure, swelling due to fluid accumulation in the body

Too little potassium in the blood, Changed fat distribution

Fall of the muscles, bone changes, baldness, muscle weakness, muscular disease, tendon damage

Psychosis, Dizziness, Increased pressure in the brain

Allergic swelling of the face as well as the oral cavity and larynx

Blindness ***, Increased pressure in the eye, Green throat, Gray throat

Unknown

Inflammation of the pancreas, ulceration of the esophagus

Blood clots, Cardiac arrhythmia, Heart failure, Carcinoma, Irritation

Elevated blood sugar, Reduced sensitivity to glucose, Sugar in the urine, Prolonged eyes

Delayed healing of fractures, joint problems

Fainting attacks, depression, mood swings, cramps, nerve inflammation, personality disorder, change of skin sensation

Serious skin reaction, Skin bleeding and mucous membranes

Undo menstruation

Lack of cornea, blurred vision

* Occurs after discontinuation of treatment or if the body is exposed to stress (eg surgery).

** Seen after repeated injections in a joint.

*** Blindness has occurred after injection into damaged skin around the face and head.

  • Stressy eyes (blurry vision due to fluid retention behind the retina) have been seen during treatment with adrenal gland hormones.
  • Reduced function of the sex glands (eg, menstrual disturbances in women as well as decreased sex drive and possibly menopausal difficulty) occur in treatment with adrenal gland hormone if it is affected by the entire body.

Should not be used

Should not be used if you have an infection and do not use a drug that kills the viruses, bacteria or fungi that cause the infection.

There are certain types of vaccines you should not get if you have reduced your body's immune response to the treatment.

Blood donor

Do not drop. 7-day quarantine.

doping

Binyrebark hormones consumed by mouth, rectum or by injection into a vein or in a muscle, exclude from sports fists, unless a TUE is granted.

Local treatment, eg in joints, is allowed.

effect

Works by inhibiting the tissue reactions seen by, for example, hypersensitivity or connective tissue and gout diseases. The effect occurs after approx. 24 hours and usually last 4-6 weeks or more.

Pharmaceutical forms

Suspension for injection. 1 ml contains 20 mg of triamcinolone hexacetonide.

Special warnings

In so-called substitution therapy, where treatment replaces one's natural production of adrenal gland hormone, there are no special warnings except for increasing the dose in case of acute disease or stress (eg surgical procedures, accident or sudden fever).

The immune system

  • Binyrebark hormone dampens the usual symptoms of infection (eg fever) while increasing susceptibility to infections. You must therefore be aware of the risk of overcoming an infection.
  • The immune system of the body is reduced and in the case of infections, special attention should be paid to antibiotic treatment.
  • Caution with tuberculosis - If you have unbreakable tuberculosis and must be treated with adrenal gland hormone for a long time, you should also receive preventive treatment against tuberculosis.

Risk of bone loss

  • In adrenal cancer hormone treatment that affects the entire body, be aware that consuming enough calcium and vitamin D - especially if you have an increased risk of bone loss. Additionally, the mineral density of the bone should be measured.

Special patient groups

  • Treatment with adrenal gland hormones in Cushing's disease should be avoided (as the condition may worsen) and, if possible, by cramps.
  • Binyrebark hormones should be used with caution if you suffer from:
    • Hypertension
    • Badly functioning heart
    • Mental disorders
    • Myasthenia Gravis (Rare Muscle Disease)
    • Herpes infection in the eye
    • Systemic sclerosis
    • Tumor in the adrenal gland (pharyochromocytoma)
    • Badly functioning kidneys.
  • Use with caution to the elderly (eg risk of hypertension).
  • There is a risk of developing diabetes during treatment - especially if you have an increased risk of diabetes. If you already suffer from diabetes, it may be necessary to increase your diabetes treatment.
  • If you have reduced thyroid or cirrhosis, the effects of adrenal gland hormones increase.
  • The medicine may only be used in children in very special cases. For long-term treatment of children, growth and development must be followed.
  • Medicinal products containing the preservative benzyl alcohol should not be used in children under 3 years of age.

Discontinuation of treatment

  • If a prolonged treatment is suddenly discontinued, there is a risk that the body can not produce sufficient adrenal cortex hormone, which may cause a number of side effects. Therefore, the dose should be reduced slowly if you have been in treatment for a long time.
  • It has occurred that the body has not been able to produce sufficient adrenal gland hormone for several years after the treatment has been stopped.
  • In case of sudden discontinuation of treatment, some side effects may occur, which are not due to lack of adrenal gland hormone (eg fatigue, muscle and joint pain and fever).

Others

  • During long-term treatment with adrenal gland hormone, the adrenal gland's normal function is suppressed. This can cause the adrenal cortex to respond to stress situations (eg surgical procedures, accident or sudden fever), where the adrenal cortex will normally increase the production of adrenal gland hormone. It may therefore be necessary to add additional adrenal gland hormone in these situations.
  • It is important that you always have information about whether or not you have been in long-term treatment with adrenal gland hormones.

Using other medicines

It is important to inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking.

The following information is only valid if you are on prolonged treatment with LederspanĀ® and receive injections into a muscle. If the injection is instead given as a local treatment of a joint, the information is without practical significance.
  • A number of funds can either increase or decrease the effect of LederspanĀ®.
    • Among the agents that can increase the effect are: erythromycin (antibiotic), itraconazole (fungicide), as well as contraceptives with hormones, for example, birth control pills.
    • Among the agents that may reduce the effect are: certain antidiabetic agents (phenytoin and phenobarbital) and rifampicin (tuberculosis).
  • LederspanĀ® may reduce the effect of anti-diabetes and somatropin (growth hormone) agents as well as affect the effect of ciclosporin (agent in organ transplantation) and protease inhibitors (anti-HIV agents).
  • There has been an effect on the effect of blood thinning agents.
  • The effect of certain agents (cholinesterase inhibitors) used in muscular myasthenia gravis may be weakened by adrenal gland hormone.
  • LederspanĀ® reduces body absorption of calcium.
  • Concomitant treatment with diuretics (thiazides and diaphragm diuretics), amphotericin B (antifungal) or beta2agonists (agents for asthma and COPD) may increase the risk of potassium deficiency.
  • In combination with NSAIDs (anti-rheumatoid arthritis and pain) there is an increased risk of gastric ulcer.
  • If the body's immune system is reduced by treatment, there are certain types of vaccines that you must not receive (vaccines containing live microorganisms).
  • Muscle side effects are seen in combination with certain other means - including some muscle relaxants used in conjunction with anesthesia.
