Male hair loss

What is male hair loss?

Male hair loss (androgen alopecia) is the most common form of hair loss. It is due to an inherited hypersensitivity to male sex hormone in certain areas of the scalp. Traditionally, baldness has been seen as signs of age, weakness and impotence. Bald men were harmless and no longer included in the competition for women. Ovid stated that bald men neither belonged in the bedroom or on the battlefield. This view of baldness has changed over the last many years, now a crowned ice can be a sign of virility.

How does male hair loss occur?

Some men have areas in the scalp that are particularly sensitive to the male sex hormone that circulates in the blood of all men. They do not necessarily have a high level of circulating sex hormone. The sex hormone gets the hair follicles from which the hair grows to shrink. Eventually, the hair follicles become so small that the hair that is lost will not be replaced. The hair follicles are still alive but can not control their task anymore. The condition begins in the age of 20-30 and follows a characteristic pattern. First, high peaks are developed so that the hairline in severe cases becomes m-shaped. The remaining hair is often finer and does not grow as fast as before. The earlier the hair loss begins the more aggressively is the hair loss.

Eventually, the hair is also thin on top of the head, and finally the two hairy hairlines reach together, and the characteristic bald ice-cream with the horseshoe-shaped hair wreath of the head has emerged.

Can you prevent male hair loss?

The tendency for male hair loss is genetically conditioned, and if you have the sensitive areas in the scalp, you will lose to a greater or lesser extent the hair. The doctor can offer medical treatment, which in some can improve the prospect.

What can I do?

Determine what you feel about your weighty hairline. Male hair loss affects a very large part of the male population, and the reactions among the affected are widely different.

  • You can accept it as the all natural phenomenon, baldness is. Perhaps you can even turn your baldness to your advantage by raising the remaining hair of the head.

  • You can try to camouflage the stain with the remaining hair or with a toup.

  • You can try medical treatment, as outlined below.

  • You can save and get a hair transplant.

What treatment options are there?

In general, baldness is considered a completely natural phenomenon and not as a disease. Therefore, if you want to try to regain the hairpiece you will in most cases pay for the entire long-lasting and expensive affair.

Medical treatment

In buy-in, you can buy Regaine, which causes some degree of hair regrowth in up to 25 percent of the men who use the drug, and can slow down the hair loss of up to 90 percent of the users. In general, it is said that you have the greatest chance of benefiting from the aid if:

  • You are young (20-30 years).

  • You have first started losing your hair within the last five years.

  • You are not completely bald.

  • You are not bald in the tindings.

Regaine works best on a small area on top of the head. You must be treated for between 4-12 months before the results appear and the treatment must be continued throughout the life. The dermatologist can combine the treatment with other means and thus achieve a better result in some.

Finasteride is a prescription tablet for the treatment of male hair loss. The agent works by inhibiting the conversion of male sex hormone to the hormone that is likely to be directly responsible for hair loss. 86 percent of the users in the initial studies received new hair growth, but the drug causes reduced sex drive and impotence in some users. Again, treatment should continue for the rest of life.

Plastic surgery

If you really want to restore hairpower, surgery is the only really safe solution. Plastic surgery is constantly evolving and hair growth recovery methods are getting better.

Hair transplant where the surgeon moves non-sensitive hair from the neck up to the ointment is best suited for men whose hair loss is limited to the front of the scalp. If you are fit for hair transplant also depends on your age, hair color, the type of hair loss, whether you have straight or curly hair and so on.

Removing a part of the scalp is best suited for men with a small well-defined bar spot on top of the head.

Lap Surgery, possibly combined with stretching of the hair-bearing hair base, can also be used in more localized areas with hair loss.

Male hair loss in women

Women also suffer from male hair loss, especially if baldness is very common among the men in the family. The female variant is usually limited to the top of the head and rarely develops total baldness. In addition to the above-described treatment, women may benefit from antiandrogens (substances that inhibit the effect of male sex hormone, for example, in the form of certain contraceptives).
