What are the characteristics of nail psoriasis?

In the light cases, you can get the so-called prick pinch, which are small nipples in the nails, reminiscent of the dents on a fingerbug. In more pronounced cases, the nails can be loosened and discolored. Finally, in very serious cases, the nail can be completely destroyed by psoriasis. The changes may remind you of a violent attack of nail fungus, but unless you also suffer from nail fungus, antifungal agents will not work. Therefore, it is important to get the correct diagnosis.

Severe nipple changes are usually seen in people who also have psoriasis arthritis.

What can you do about nail psoriasis?

You can treat nail psoriasis locally with adrenal gland hormone - either by lubricating the affected area or by injecting a binyrebark hormone. Unfortunately, it is often a disappointing effect. You can also try with ultraviolet light - the so-called PUVA treatment - but you typically see the best effect using systemic treatment either in the form of tablets or in the form of an injection with biological drugs.
