Application

Sirturo is used:

  • For the treatment of multiresistant tuberculosis.
  • Along with other agents against tuberculosis.

The treatment takes place through the hospital.


Dosage

Available as tablets.

  • Week 1-2 Adults. 400 mg once a day together with a meal.
  • Week 3-24 Adults. 200 mg with a meal 3 times a week with at least 2 days between doses.

Always used with other agents for tuberculosis.

Note:

  • Forgotten dose
    • If you are in week 1-2: You must skip the forgotten dose and take the next dose as usual. You should never take a double dose.
    • If you are in week 3-24: You must immediately take the missed dose of 200 mg and continue your treatment with 3 doses per week. You should never take a double dose.
  • The tablets should be swallowed whole.

Special warnings

  • Sirturo should be used with caution at:

  • You should avoid taking alcohol while taking Sirturo, especially if you have a poorly functioning liver.
  • Your treatment will be continuously monitored by a number of measurements, such as:
    • ECG
    • liver effect, by single blood test.

Using other medicines

It is important to inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking.
  • Sirturo should only be used with fluorocinolones (certain antibiotics) with great caution.
  • Simultaneous use of a number of medicines, eg:
    • certain epilepsy drugs (carbamazepine, phenytoin)
    • efavirenz (HIV agent)
    • rifamycins (tuberculosis drugs)
    • herbal remedies
    may reduce the effect of Sirturo and should therefore be avoided.
  • A number of medicines, for example:
    • certain antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, clarithromycin, erythromycin)
    • certain fungicides (itraconazole)
    may increase the effect of Sirturo and thus the risk of side effects. Sirturo and these funds should be used for a maximum of 14 consecutive days.
