Yervoy® is a means of immunotherapy (antibody).

Application

Yervoy® is used in maternal cancer where the cancer has spread to other parts of the body.

Only used in hospitals.


Dosage

Available as a concentrate for solution for infusion, after dilution, in a vein.

  • Adults and children over 12 years old. Usually 3 mg per kg body weight every 3 weeks to a total of 4 doses.
  • Infusion usually lasts over 90 minutes.

possible side effects

Due to reduced immune system, serious and sometimes life-threatening side effects can occur in the gastrointestinal tract, liver, skin, brain and other organs. Most side effects occur during the treatment period, but are also seen months after the last dose.

If the organism is not able to get rid of all the cells that Yervoy® has broken, so-called tumor light can occur, which can lead to an abnormally high level of waste in the blood and possibly kidney failure. If side pain occurs or blood is present in the urine, it may be a sign of tumor light and in this case you should seek medical advice.

  • Yervoy® works by binding to a particular antigen (CTLA-4) in the blood. Thus, Yervoy® blocks the inhibitory effect of CTLA-4 on the immune system.

Special warnings

  • Checking the liver and thyroid gland function must be performed before starting Yervoy® treatment.
  • Use of adrenal gland hormones or other drugs that inhibit the immune system must be avoided before starting Yervoy® treatment.

Using other medicines

It is important to inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking.
  • Concomitant use of vemurafenib (other antidiabetic agent) should be avoided due to increased risk of liver function.

❓ What is Yervoy used to treat?

👉 YERVOY® (ipilimumab) is a prescription medicine used in adults to help prevent melanoma (a kind of skin cancer) from coming back after it and lymph nodes that contain cancer have been removed by surgery.

❓ What is the difference between OPDIVO and Yervoy?

👉 Opdivo and Yervoy target two different immune checkpoints — PD-1 and CTLA-4 — to better fight cancer cells. Yervoy helps T cells spread and be more active. Meanwhile, Opdivo helps T cells better recognize cancer cells. They work together in complementary ways.

👉 Ipilimumab is a type of cancer treatment called immunotherapy. You might have ipilimumab to treat: melanoma that can't be removed with surgery or has spread to another part of the body (advanced melanoma)

❓ How long can you live with Stage 4 melanoma?

👉 According to the American Cancer Society , the 5-year survival rate for stage 4 melanoma is 15–20 percent. This means that an estimated 15–20 percent of people with stage 4 melanoma will be alive 5 years after diagnosis. Many different factors influence an individual's chance of survival.

👉 Researchers conducted follow-up for a median of 8.4 months in the Opdivo plus Yervoy group, 9.9 months in the Opdivo alone group and 9.1 months in the placebo group. ❓ How long can you take Yervoy?

👉 Yervoy is typically prescribed for a maximum of four doses (12 weeks) for melanoma, colorectal cancer, kidney cancer, and liver cancer. If you're receiving Yervoy for melanoma in combination with other treatments, you may receive Yervoy for up to 3 years as long as the drug is safe and effective for you.

❓ Can Stage 4 melanoma be cured?

👉 Prognosis: Stage IV melanoma is very difficult to cure as it has already spread to other parts of the body. However, a small number of people respond well to treatment, achieve No Evidence of Disease (NED), and survive for many years following diagnosis.

❓ Is immunotherapy worse than chemo?

👉 Other therapies you have, like chemotherapy, may work better if you also have immunotherapy. It causes fewer side effects than other treatments. This is because it targets just your immune system and not all the cells in your body. Your cancer may be less likely to return.

👉 Survival for all stages of melanoma almost all people (almost 100%) will survive their melanoma for 1 year or more after they are diagnosed. around 90 out of every 100 people (around 90%) will survive their melanoma for 5 years or more after diagnosis.

👉 Stage 4 melanoma is harder to treat than earlier stages of melanoma, but you still have options. Newer advancements in treatment, such as immunotherapy and targeted therapy, may improve your chances of survival. 👉 YERVOY® (ipilimumab) is a prescription medicine used to treat melanoma (a kind of skin cancer). YERVOY may be used: In adults and children 12 years of age and older when melanoma has spread (metastatic) or cannot be removed by surgery (unresectable).

👉 The active substance in Yervoy, ipilimumab, is a monoclonal antibody. A monoclonal antibody is a type of protein that has been designed to attach to a specific target in the body. Ipilimumab increases the number and the activity of a type of white blood cells called T cells which form part of the immune system and which can kill cancer cells.

👉 This medicine is authorised for use in the European Union. Yervoy is a cancer medicine used to treat the following: non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in adults that has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic) and has not been treated before.

👉 In the event of toxicity, doses may be delayed, but all treatment must be administered within 16 weeks of the first dose [see Clinical Studies (14.1)]. The recommended dose of Yervoy is 10 mg/kg administered IV over 90 minutes every 3 weeks for 4 doses followed by 10 mg/kg every 12 weeks for up to 3 years [see Clinical Studies (14.2)].
